About
“Being on set is where I feel most at home.”

Josh LaCount is a narrative filmmaker, writer, and cinematographer based in Los Angeles. He began his creative journey on the East Coast as a singer, songwriter, musician - writing songs, fronting bands, and touring throughout the U.S., including performing in Las Vegas. Music was his first connection to storytelling, teaching him rhythm, emotion, and how to connect with an audience.
That foundation eventually led him into acting, where he worked across film and television, with roles in projects such as Men in Black 3 and television series including Gotham, Vinyl (HBO), Blue Bloods, The Time Traveler’s Wife (HBO) and more. Acting sparked a deeper curiosity about the entire filmmaking process. Wanting more creative ownership - and unwilling to sit idle waiting for opportunities - Josh began writing his own scripts and making his own films. One project led to the next, and over time he directed, shot, edited, and produced a growing body of work. He has since completed over a dozen short films, directed a feature and has worked extensively on sets of all sizes, from intimate independent productions to large studio projects throughout the U.S. That wide-ranging experience, across departments and environments, has shaped his approach as a filmmaker.
In addition to his directing and cinematography work, Josh writes scripts for actors to perform internationally, including collaborations in the UK. He is also developing television projects and regularly works with actors both in person and remotely, using tools like Zoom to collaborate across the U.S., the UK, and beyond. These ongoing relationships continue to inform his writing and deepen his understanding of performance.
Josh’s work is rooted in collaboration. He values the collective process of filmmaking and believes the strongest stories come from shared effort, trust, and open communication. Being on set is where he feels most at home - working with people, solving problems together, and building something meaningful as a team. Filmmaking isn’t separate from who he is; it’s woven into his life, his curiosity, and how he moves through the world.
In an ever-evolving industry, Josh remains deeply motivated by the creative possibilities available today. With so many stories left to tell and more freedom than ever to make them, he continues creating - driven by a love for movies, the people who make them, and the moments that stay with us long after the screen goes dark.
